Thepreparationofrayon-basedmacroporousactivatedcarbonfibers(RACFs)fromrayonprecursorsimpregnatedwithphosphoricacid(H3PO4)andactivatedbywatervaporwasstudiedinthispaper.AnovelACFscontainingmanymacropores(poresize>50nm)weresuccessfullyobtainedwithhighcarbonyieldsbyusingproperimpregnationratiosofH3PO4andthesemacroporousACFsalsoexhibitedahighadsorptionabilitydeterninedbuBET.Infaredspectroscopy(IR)weremainlyappliedtoinvestigatethepyrolysisprocessofrayonpercursorsimpregnatedwithH3PO4.Inaddition,P-containingfunctionalities,whichshouldprobablybeacidphosphatesorpolyosphates,canbeobservedonthesurfaceoftheresultingACFs.ItcanbeconcludedfromSEMobservationthattheconcentrationofH3PO4inprengnationstronglyinfluencedthesurfacemorphlulgyandtheporoustextureoftheresultingACFs.
