Somesegmentedpolyurethanesarereportedshowingshapememoryproperties.Whereastherelationshipbetweenstructuresandshape-memorypropertiesofthesepolymersisstillnotclear.Inthisstudy,aseriesofpolyurethaneshavingcrystallinesoftsegmentswithvaryinghard-segmentcontentweresynthesized.Theirmorphologywascharacterizedwithdifferentialscanningcalorimetry(DSC),thermomechanicalanalysis(TMA).TheDSCtestsrevealedthatthecrystallinityofsoft-segmentphasedecreasesasincreasinghard-segmentcontent.TheTMAstudiesprovedthatinthehard-segmentcontentrange40%-45%thehard-segmentphasechangesfromdiscontinuitytocontinuity.Thiswasfurtherverifiedbythetensilehysteresistests.Thethermomechanicalcyclictestsrevealedthatthesegmentedpolyurethaneshavingdiscretehardmicrodomainsshowedabout90%shaperecoverywhiletheoneshavingcontinuoushardmicrodomainsexhibiteddramaticallydecreasedshaperecovery.
