Duringthelastfewdecades,clinicalneedshavemotivatedbiomedicalapplicationsofbiodegradablepolymers.Currentlyusedbiodegradablepolymersincludepolyesters,polyanhydrides,polyhydroxyalkanoates,polyphosphazenes,andtheircopolymers.Aliphaticpolyesterssuchaspolyglycolide(PGA),polylactide(PLA),poly(ε-caprolactone)(PCL)andtheircopolymershavereceivedgreatinterestinmedicalapplications,suchasdrugdeliverysystems,sutures,artificialskins,orthopedics,andscaffoldfortissueengineering,becauseoftheirexcellentbiodegradabilitiesandbiocompatibilities.
