Thecrystallinestructureandthefreevolumepropertieswithintheamorphousphaseofpoly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate)(PHBV)membranesdependonthepreparationconditions.ThedifferenceoffreevolumepropertiesamongvariousPHBVmembraneswascreatedaccordingtothecrystallinestructureofthepolymerfromdifferentthermalhistory.FreevolumepropertiesintheamorphousregionofaseriesofPHBVmembranes,whichwerepreparedbycold-andmelt-crystallizationprocesses,wereinvestigatedusingpositronannihilationlifetime(PAL)spectroscopyinthisstudy.Fromthelifetimeparameters,thetemperaturedependenceoffreevolumesize,amount,freevolumesizedistribution,andfractionalfreevolume,andthethermalexpansionoffreevolumewerediscussed.
