Toobtainanewcompositeelectrodewithgoodelectrochemicalperformanceinbothacidicandneutralelectrolytes,novelbinarycompositematerialsconsistingofpolyaniline(PANI)andpolypyrrole(PPy)werepreparedinthiswork.PANInanofiberswerefirstlypreparedusingasolutionofanilineasseedinsolutionofammoniumpersulfateoxidantbyrapidly-mixedpolymerization.ThenthePANInanofiberswereusedas‘seed’toinducethepolymerizationofpyrrolemonomers.Themorphologyandmicrostructurefortheresultingcompositeswerestudiedbytransmissionelectronmicroscopy(TEM)andFouriertransform-infraredspectroscopy(FT-IR).TEMimagesshowedthattheformationofthecore-shellnanostructures,inwhichthePANIactedasthecoreandPPyservedastheshell.ThisresultindicatedthattheformationofPPyoccurredthroughinsituchemicaloxidationpolymerizationofpyrrolemonomersonthesurfaceofPANInanofibers.FT-IRspectraanalysisfurtherconfirmedthattheresultingcompositeswerenotthesumofthecontributionsofeachindividualpolymer.ItdemonstratedthattheresultingcompositehadpotentialapplicationaselectrodematerialsforsupercapacitorintheacidicandneutralelectrolytesduetothecombinationofthecomplementarypropertiesofPANIandPPy.
