AnovelmethodviaaphysicalcrosslinkingprocesshasbeenadoptedtopreparepH-andtemperaturesensitivesemi-IPNnanocompositemicrogels.First,PNIPAmicrogelwaspreparedviasurfactant-freeemulsionpolymerizationbyusinginorganicclayasacrosslinker,andthenAAcmonomerwaspolymerizedwithinthePNIPAmicrogel.ThestructureandmorphologyofthemicrogelwereconfirmedbyXRDandTEM.TheresultsindicatedthattheexfoliatedclayplateletsweredispersedhomogeneouslyinthePNIPAmicrogelsandactedasamultifunctionalcrosslinker,whilethelinearPAAcpolymerchainsincorporatedinthePNIPAmicrogelnetworktoformasemi-IPNstructure.Thesemi-IPNmicrogelsexhibitedgoodpHandtemperaturesensitivity,whichcouldrespondindependentlytobothpHandtemperaturechanges.
