Inthispaper,core/shellcompositemicroparticleswerepreparedwithsilicaparticleascoreandpoly(tert-butylmethacrylate)asshell.SilicaparticleswerefirstlysynthesizedbySt&ouml；bermethod,whosesizescanbeadjustedbycontrollingtheamountofwaterinthesynthesisfeed.Then,thesurfaceofthesilicaparticleswasmodifiedby3-(trimethoxysilyl)propylmethacrylate(MPS)toenhancethehydrophobicityofsilicaparticlesandgraftC=Cgroupsontheirsurface.TheresultsofelementalanalysisindicatedthatthegraftingamountofMPSincreasedwiththedecreaseofthediameterofsilicaparticles.ItcanbeconcludedfromFTIRspectraand13CNMRspectra,thatthegraftedsubstanceonthemodifiedsilicaparticleswasmostlytheoligomerformedbythehydrolysisandcondensationreactionofMPS.Finally,thecore/shellcompositemicroparticlesbasedonsilicaparticlesascoreandcrosslinkedpoly(tert-butylmethacrylate)asshellwerepreparedbyseedemulsionpolymerization,utilizingmodifiedsilicaparticlesasseeds,tert-butylmethacrylateasmonomerandethyleneglycoldimethacrylateascrosslinker.Thecore/shellmorphologicalstructureofthecompositemicroparticleswasconfirmedbyTEM,andthemicroparticleswereidentifiedtobecomposedfromSiO2andpoly(tert-butylmethacrylate)byFTIR.
