Epoxyresins(EP)holdanimportantpositioninpolymermaterialscl],whiledialkylphosphinatesaltsbelongtonewlydevelopedphosphorus-containingfireretardantsc2].Differenceinstructureofalkylgroupattachedonphosphorusatomwillcauseadifferenceinpropertiesofphosphinatesaltitself,whichwillcauseavariationofperformanceforpolymercomposites.Inthisstudy,thecomparedinvestigationoffouraluminumdialkylphosphinatesfilledEPcompositeswascarriedout:aluminummethylethylphosphinate(AI(MEP》,aluminumdiethylphosphinate《AI(DEP》,aluminummethylbutylphosphinate(AI(MBP》andaluminiummethylcyclohexylphosphinate(AI(MHP》.Theinfluenceofalkylgroupofaluminumphosphinatesontheflameretardancyofthepolymerwasinvestigatedwithalimitingoxygenindex(LOI)andUL-94test.ThethermalstabilityoffourphosphinatessaltsandtheircompositeswasstudiedbyTGandDSC,thecompatibilitybetweenaluminumphosphinatesandEPwasdeterminedwithSEM.Inaddition,flexuralstrengthoftheEPcompositesaswellasleachingofthephosphinatesaltsfromEPwerealsoinvestigated.A1(MEP)showshighestthermalstabilityandflameretardancyduetoitshighestphosphoruscontentandthesmallestalkylgroup.AI(MBP)andAI(DEP)havemiddlesizeofalkylgroupandexhibitbettercompatibilitywithEPandhigherflexuralstrengththanAI(MEP)andAI(MHP).ThewatersolubilityoffoursaltsisAI(MEP》AI(MHP》AI(MBP》AI(DEP).LeachingoffouraluminumphosphinatesfromEPdecreasewithvolumeofalkylgroupincreasing,AI(MHP)showslowestleaching.
