Au-dopedZnonanofiberswiththeAucontentsintherangeof0-5%weresuccessfullypreparedbyelectrospinningtechniqueandevaluatedasphotoanodesfordye-sensitizedsolarcells(DSSCs).ItwasgeneratedbycalciningAu/ZnC12/PVP(PVP:poly(vinylpyrrolidone》nanofibers,whichwereelectrospunfromamixturesolutionofAu,ZnC12andPVP.Scanningelectronmicroscopy(SEM),Transmissionelectronmicroscopy(TEM)andX-raydiffraction(XRD)analyseswereusedtoidentifythemorphologyandmicrostructureoftheAu-dopedZn0nanofibers.Theopen-circuitvoltageincreasedsignificantlywiththeadditionofAuduetothemcreaseinelectronrecombinationresistanceattheZnonanofiberelectrode/electrolyteinterfacesresultinginthereductionindarkcurrent.TheZnonanofibers(ZnO-NF)withadiameterof260nmweresuccessfullyobtainedaftercalcinationsoftheprecursorfibers.AsignificantimprovementoftheefficiencyintheZnO-NFdye-sensitizedsolarcell(DSSC)hasbeenachievedbythecommercialZnonanoparticle(NP)combinedwithZnO-NFandcoatingonfluorine-dopedtinoxide(FTO)anode.ComparedwiththeZnO-NF,thesuperiorperformanceoftheZnO-NF/NPcompositeDSSCcellhasobviouslyincreasedthelightharvestingwithoutsignificantlysacrificingtheelectrontransport.
