Bothpoly(lacticacid)(PLA)andpoly(ethyleneglycol)(PEG)arebiodegradablepolymers,andblendingPLAwithPEGisexpectedtotoughenPLAmatrixwhilemaintainitsbiodegradability.Inthisstudy,PLA/PEGblendsindifferentratioswerepreparedthroughtriple-screwextruder,andthefoamingbehaviorwasinvestigatedusingsupercriticalcarbondioxideasphysicalblowingagent.Themechanical,thermal,theologicalpropertiesandcrystallizationbehaviorwerealsostudied.BytheincorporationofPEG,theimpactstrengthofthePLA/PEGblendswasimprovedby98%,andthefailuremodetransferredfrombrittlefractureofneatPLAtoductilefractureofthePLA/PEGblendsasdemonstratedbythetensiletestandSEMmicrographs.TheviscoelasticityofthePLA/PEGmatrixwasweakened,andthecellstendedtobreakatthecellwallduringcellexpansion,thusahighlyinterconnectedstructurewithamaximumporosityof82.3%wasobtained.Moreover,thePLA/PEGblendsexhibitedhighercelldensitiesandsmallercellsizecomparedwiththeirneatcounterpart.
