Caprolactam(C6HiiNO)isanimportantorganicchemicalmaterial,whichisusedextensivelyinthemanufactureofhighqualitynylon-6fibersandresins[l].Novelorganic-inorganicnanocompositepervaporation(PV)membraneswerepreparedbytheincorporationoftheunmodifiedandmodifiedSi02nanoparticleswithasilanecouplingagent(WDIO,Cl2H25Si(OCH3)3)intoregeneratedcellulose(RC)membranes.ThechemicalandphysicalpropertiesoftheresultmembraneswerecharacterizedbyATR-FTIR,SEM,TGA,XRDanddegreeofswellingmeasurements.Furthermore,theeffectsofnano-Si02,WDIO-modifiedSi02,WDIO,feedtemperature,andfeedconcentrationonthePVperformancesofthenanocompositeRCmembraneswereinvestigatedforcaprolactamdehydrationbyPV.Thenormalizedpermeationfluxesintermsofwaterpermeance,caprolactampermeanceandselectivitywereintroducedtoevaluatethemembranesperformance.Amongallthepreparedmembranes,RC-Si02(5%)-WDIOnanocompositemembraneexhibitedbothexcellentwaterpermeanceandselectivity.DiffusioncoefficientofwaterandcaprolactammoleculeswasanalyzedbyFick‘sequation.TheresultsshowthatthediffusionplaysadominantroleinthetransportofbinaryliquidmoleculesthroughapolymermembraneinPVprocessc2].Thenanocompositemembranesdevelopedinthepresentstudyhaveabilityfortheseparationofcaprolactam-watermixture.
