Supercriticalcarbondioxide(scC02)isanattractivealternativetoconventionalsolventscl].However,scC02issofeeblethatmostofpolymersandpolarmassesaredifficulttodissolveinit,whichlimitsitsapplications.Thisproblemcanbeovercamebypreparingemulsionormicroemulsionbyusingamphiphilicsurfanctants.Althoughfluoro-orsilicone-basedsurfactantsshowgoodperformanceinscC02,thehighcostisprohibitiveonanindustrialscaleapplication.Recently,thereisanincreasingdrivetodiscoverC02-philichydrocarbonmaterialswithlow-cost,suchaspoly(vinylacetate)(PVAc),etal,whichcanbealsopreparedstabilisers,amphiphilicsurfactants.[2]Mostofhydrocarbon-basedsurfanctantsreportedintheliteraturesfocusonnon-ionicsurfactants,andthereisfewreportsaboutionicsurfactant.[3]Inthisstudy,anewionicsurfactantpoly(vinylacetate)-b-poly(dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate)(PVAc-b-PDMEMA)wassynthesizedbyacombinationofRAFTandATRPmethodsbyusingabromoxanthateiniferteraschaintransferagent(CTA).ThehydrophilicabilityofPVAc-b-PDMAEMAcopolymerscanbetunedbycontrollingthemolecularchainlength,orpHvalueofthesolution.ItisfoundthatPVAc-trPDMAEMAcopolymersareeffectivesurfactantsforC02-in-wateremulsionswithhighstability.Polymerizationofemulsion-templatingformedbyacrylamide(AM)solution/C02system,PAMmonolithsmaterialswhichconformcloselytotheinteriorofthereactionvesselareobtained.TheaverageporesizeofthemonolithsmaterialswhichiscalculatedbySEManalysisrangesfrom10-25ym.
