Witheverincreasingnumberofautomobilesinthisworld,increasingutilizationofrubbertires,thedisposalofusedrubbertireshasbeenasignificantprobleminrecentyears.Recyclingofwasterubbertiresisadifficulttaskcausingenormousenvironmentalproblems.Theeverincreasingstockpileofwastetiresispotentialenvironmentalhazard.Onewayofutilizationofwastetiresistorecycleit.Sincetiresaremadeofhighqualityrubbers,wastetirescanbetransformedtopotentialsourceofrawmaterialforpolymerindustry.WGRTcontainsmanycomponentsnamelynatural&syntheticrubbers,metalpowder,metaloxides,carbonblacketcmakingitimpossibletoseparatetheindividualcomponentsofWGRT.SinceKoreahavetoimportbothnaturalandsyntheticrubbersitisimperativetofullyrecyclewastetires.Table1showsthebreakupofwastetireutilizationinKorea.Fromtableitcanbeobservedthatmorethan50%ofthetireisusedincementkilnsasfuelwhichcausestremendousdetrimentaleffectonenvironmentduetoreleaseofgreenhousegaseslikeCOxandNOx.Thereforeourresearchendeavoristodevelop‘valueaddedproducts’fromwastetiresbydevulcanizationandsubsequentdevelopmentofThermoplasticelastomers(TPEs)fromthedevulcanizedrubber.
