Thermoplasticvulcanizates(TPVs)isaspecialclassofthermoplasticelastomers(TPEs)madeofarubber/plasticpolymermixtureinwhichtherubberphaseishighlyvulcanized.Itispreparedbymeltmixingathermoplasticwithanelastomerandbyin-situcrosslinkingoftherubberphase.Theuseofgroundtirerubber(GRT)asadisperseelastomericphaseinaPPmatrixoffersaninterestingopportunityformaterialsrecyclingofwasterubber.ThepropertiesofGRT/PPblendsshowsimilartoTPVsandarethereforeregardedasathermoplasticvulcanizate.ThedevelopmentofTPVfoamingtechnologyistofulfilltherequirementofachievinglowercost,lighterweightandbetterfueleconomy,thefoamingofTPVspresentsanimportantmilestoneinmanyapplicationssuchastrunkanddoorseals.ThemainfoamingmethodsforTPVsincludethechemicallyblown,waterfoamingandmicrocellularfoaming.
