Goldnanoparticles,carbonnanotubesandtheircompositeshavebeenextensivelystudiedfortheirversatilepotentialapplicationsduetotheiruniqueproperties.Inthisarticle,colloidalgoldwaspreparedfromhydrogentetrachloroauratebyusingNa3-citrateasreducingagent,andgoldnanoparticleswithsizearound16nmwereobtained.RawCVDgrownMWCNTsweretreatedwithhydrochloricacidtoremovetheresidualcatalystsandamorphouscarbonparticles,andoxidizedinamixtureofconcentratedsulfuricacidandnitricacidtoformfunctionalgroupssuchashydroxylandcarboxylgroupsontheirsurfaces.TheoxidizedMWCNTswerethenthiol-modifiedwith(3-mercaptopropyl)-trimethoxysilane.Thethiol-modifiedMWCNTswereaddedintothegoldcolloid,andthegoldnanoparticleswereadheredtothesurfacesoftheMWCNTsthroughtheAu-Sbondingbetweenthegoldnanoparticlesandthethiolgroups.TEMimagesconfirmthattheMWCNT/goldnanoparticlecompositewasformedandthatthegoldnanoparticlesdistributedalongthewallsoftheMWCNTs. |
