Whilemuchhasbeenlearnedabouttheconformationalanddynamicalpropertiesofindividuallinear[1]andbranched[2]polymersinshearflow,asimilarunderstandingofringpolymersislacking.Insightintothedynamicsofpolymersisofgreatpracticalinterest.Themicroscopicconformationalpropertiesaffectthemacroscopicrheologicalbehaviorofthepolymersolution.Incontrasttolinearandbranchedpolymers,ringpolymerspresentaspecialmacromoleculararchitecture,inwhichtheydonothavefreeends.ThisstructureisparticularlyinterestingbecauseitisconsideredhighlyrelevantmodelsystemsusetounderstandplasmidDNAinshearflow.Therefore,adeepunderstandingofthedynamicsofaringpolymerinshearflowisdesirablebothfromafundamentalandanappliedviewpointofpolymerandbiophysics.
