Concentricringpatternwithdifferentwidthsofbrightanddarkringsinbothphasecontrastandpolarizedopticalmicroscopyinpolyethylene/poly(ethylene-co-propylene)(d-PE/PEP)blendwasfoundtobeoriginatedfromcrystallizationassistedphaseseparationmechanism.CrystallizationtookplacebyassemblingcrystallizablePEandrejectingamorphousPEPchainstothegrowthfront.SotherewouldbePE-depletionregionandPEP-richregionatthegrowthregion.Thelongerthecrystalgrowth,thelongertheconcentrationgradientwouldbeinthatregion.Whentheconcentrationgradientexceededacriticalvalue,itgotunstableatinterface.Phaseseparationwasinducedandaccomplishedviainter-diffusionofPEandPEPmolecules,concentrationwavepropagatedandledtotheformationofconcentricringpattern.Intheinter-diffusionprocess,PEchainsmightbealignedtobeperpendiculartotheoriginallamellastackingdirectionatthegrowthfrontbecauseofsterichindrance,whichledtothesuddenedge-ontoflat-onlamellartwistatthegrowthfront.
