Inthisstudythesurfacemodificationofcellulosefibrepreparedfrommouldedbiodegradablecellulose/MPU-20compositesduringsteaminjectionprocesswasstudiedbyAFM,EMPA(EDS)andPy-GC-MSanalysis.Theresultsindicatedthataftersteaminjectiontreatmentsthesurfaceofcellulosefibresbecamerougherduetotheremovalofpartsemi-celluloseandhydrophobicite.TheincreaseofO/Cvaluefrom1.01to1.94demonstratedthatmorehydrophlicities(i.e.,celluloseandsemi-cellulose)increasesbysteaminjectiontreatments,however,thehydrophobicites(i.e.,lignin)onthesurfaceofcellulosefibredecreases.ThepyrolysisgasofthecellulosefibresbyPy-GCMSanalysissuggestedthatmoreglucofuranosecompoundswithlowmolecularweightarealsodeterminedaftersteaminjectiontreatments.Low-molecular-weightcompoundswithcyclicstructurefrompyrolysisgassuggestedthatNatomfromMPU-20resinisbondedwiththe–OH,COOH,-CO-groupsfromcellulosefibresduringsteaminjectionprocess.
