Porouspolymernanofibersandmacroporouspolymermembraneshavebeengenerallyusedastissueengineeringscaffolds.However,theeffectofthemicrostructuresrelatedtodifferentporousmaterialsonthecellgrowthandproliferationremainsunclear.Inthisreport,porousPLGAandPLGA/multi-walledcarbonnanotubes(MWCNTs)membranespreparedusingbothelectrospinningandcolloidaltemplatingapproacheswerefabricated.TheformedelectrospunPLGAandPLGA/MWCNTsnanofibrousmatshaveafiberdiameterof500nmandporosityaround75%.WhilethemacroporousPLGAandPLGA/MWCNTsmembraneswithporediametersof7μmwereproducedbyetchingthemelamineformaldehyde(MF)resinparticleswithsimilardiametersinPLGAandPLGA/MWCNTsfilmsformedusingasolutioncastingmethod.Theviabilityofratfibroblastcellsculturedonthesetwotypesofdifferentscaffoldswasassessedusing3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazoliumbromide(MTT)assay.TheresultsshowedthatthePLGAcompositescaffoldswithMWCNTspreparedwithbothmethodstendedtopromotefibroblastattachment,spreadingandproliferationwhencomparedwithpureporousPLGAfibrousmatsandmacroporousPLGAfilms.ThefabricatedporousPLGA/MWCNTscompositemembranescouldbefurtherdevelopedfortissueengineeringscaffoldsintheareaofregenerativemedicine.
