Multi-wallcarbonnanotubes(MW-CNTs)weremeltblendedwithpolypropylene(PP)inordertoassesstheireffectsonthephoto-oxidationbehaviouroftheresultantPP/MW-CNTscomposites.ThemechanicalpropertiesofPP/MW-CNTscompositeswithvariousMW-CNTscontentsweretestedbeforeandafterphoto-oxidation.Resultsshowedthatbeforephoto-oxidation,thetensilestrengthsofthesamplesincreasedwiththeincreaseofMW-CNTscontentswhentheMW-CNTscontentswerelessthan1wt%,whilstthetensilestrengthdecreasedathigherMW-CNTscontents(>1%wt).Whensubjectedtophoto-oxidation,thetensilestrengthsofthesamplesdecreasedwiththeincreasingphoto-oxidationtime.Theresistancetoacceleratedphoto-oxidationofPP/MW-CNTscompositeswasalsocomparedwiththephoto-oxidationbehaviouroftheoriginalpolypropylenesample.Atshortphoto-oxidationtime,suchasunder250h,theratesofcarbonylformationforthePP/MW-CNTscompositesaresimilartothatfortheoriginalpolypropylenebutatlongerphoto-oxidationtimesthecarbonylformationincreasesforlowerMW-CNTscontents(0.1,0.2,0.5and0.8%wt),anddecreasesforhigherMW-CNTscontents(1%and2%wt).ItwasfoundthattheMW-CNTsshowedbothanti-degradationandpro-degradationeffectsatdifferentconcentrations.
