Themesophasepitchderivedfromcoaltarpitchinhighpressureandtemperaturechamberissoakedfor2~4hourstoproducepitchfoam.Thepitchfoamcanbecarbonizedandgraphitizedwithoutstabilization.SEM,WAXDareusedtostudytheinfluenceofthefoamingprocessonthemorphologyandcrystalstructureofgraphiticfoam.Theresultsshowthatthemesophasepitchwithsoftenpointof300~350℃andmesophasecontentof>80%canproducehomogenousandperfectporestructure.Theporosityandopeningofresultedfoamare55~75%and75~85%respectively.Theporosityandopeningdecreasewiththeincreaseofpressureandincreaseslightlywiththeincreaseofsoakingtime.Thegraphitizationdegreeoffoamreachesto84.9%andtheligamentofgraphiticfoamexhibitshighalignment.
