Poly(vinylidenefluoride)(PVDF)isacrystallinepolymerhavingalowglasstransitiontemperature(-350C).Itissuperiorinheatresistance,chemicalresistance,mechanicalproperties,abrasionresistance,flameretardancyandweatherability.PVDFexhibitsspecificelectricalpropertiesbecauseofthehighpolarCF2bondsinitsmolecularstructure.Inthiswork,aroomtemperatureionicliquid(11),1-butyl-3-methylimidazoliumhexafluorophosphate[BMIM][PF6],carbonnanotubes(CNT),andtheILcoatedCNTs(IL-CNTs)havebeenusedtomodifypoly(vinylidenefluoride)(PVDF)cl,2].Thestructure,crystalforms,andpropertiesoftheobtainednanocompositeshavebeeninvestigatedsystematically.ItwasfoundthattheincorporationofILintothePVDFleadstodrasticallyincreasedycrystalformsofPVDFbytheinteractionbetweenthe-CF2-andcationicions.PristineCNTsacceleratethecrystallizationofPVDFasanefficientnucleationagent,whiletheformedcrystalsaremainlynonpolaracrystalformwithfewpolarpcrystals.TheionicliquidandCNTsshowsignificantsynergeticeffectsonboththenucleationandtheformationofpolarpcrystalsforPVDFbythemeltcrystallization.TheadditionofIL-CNTsnotonlyimprovestheCNTsdispersioninPVDFmatrix,butalsoincreasestheoverallcrystallizationrateofPVDFdrastically.Moreimportant,themelt-crystallizedPVDFnanocompositeswithIL-CNTsshowioo%polarppolymorphsbutnoacrystalforms.TheILtoCNTsratioandtheIL-CNTsloadingcontenteffectsonthecrystallizationbehaviorsofPVDFinthenanocompositeswerealsostudied.Itisconsideredthatthespecificinteractionsbetween-CF2-withtheplanarcationicimidazoliumringwrappedontheCNTssurfaceleadtothefullzigzagconformationsofPVDF,thusthenucleationinpolarcrystals(pforms)latticeisachievedandfullpolarpformscrystalsareobtainedbythesubsequentcrystalgrowthfromthenuclei.Moreover,itwasfoundthatthePVDF/IL-CNTsnanocompositesshowlowermodulus,buthigherelongationatbreakthanthePVDF/CNTscompositesatthesameloadingcontent.
