Themorphologyandfillerdispersioninpolymer-claynanocompositesareusuallycharacterizedbyofflinetechniques,like,transmissionelectronmicroscopy(TEM),atomicforcemicroscopy(AFM)[1],smallangleX-rayscattering(SAXS),nuclearmagneticresonance(NMR)[2]andFouriertransforminfraredspectroscopy(FTIR)[3].Theofflineexperimentaltechniquearenotonlytimecon-suming,laborintensive,expensive,requiringahighexpertisebutalsocrucialindeterminingtheinfluenceofprocessingparametersontheresultingmicrostructure.Replacingtheofflinemeasurementsorminimizingthemwithanonlinemeasurementmethod,whichwouldquitecosteffectiveandeasyinhandling.Theonlinemeasuredelectricalconductance(OMEC)method,reportedinthisarticleisbasedonconductivityandhasbeensuccessfullyusedforthequalitativeandquantitativecharacterizationofthekineticsofcarbonblack(CB)andcarbonnanotubes(CNT)inrubbercompoundsaswellasinrubberblends[4].Theconductivityinthepolymer-claynanocompositesisionicinnature[5].Itispresumedthatmixingorganoclayimpartstheammoniumcationduetointercalationandexfoliationintherubbermatrix.Thus,thereceivedelectricalsignalcanbeusedfortheinvestigationofthechangeoftheclaydispersioninthehostpolymerduringthemixingprocess.Buretal.[5,6]useddielectricalmeasurementsanddetectedtheonlineelectricalsignalsduringmeltmixingofpolyamide-claynanocompositesintwinscrewextrusion.Thismethodgivesthemorphologyofthenanocompositesatonlyoneposition,i.e.thepositionofsensor,butfailstodisplaythecompletespectrumofclaydispersioninthepolymermatrix.
