Anewgenerationofhighperformancenovelmodifiedbismaleimides(BMI)isbeingdevelopedforuseinthemarineenwronment.TheadvantagesofBMIresinsareitslowmoistureabsorption,goodmechanicalpropertiesandstrengthretentionathightemperatures.Bismaleimide(BMI)resincanimproveitspoorpropertiessuchastoughnessandsolubilitybyreactingwithunsaturatedalkenecompounds.Thispresentationwillcoverouron-goingworkonBMIwithparticularfocusoncarboranealkenecontainingbulkycarboranecagewhichpossessesremarkablethermalstability.Thecopolymerizationofbismaleimidewithcarboranealkene,canobtainhighheat-resistantmaterialcarboranylpolybismaleimidewithexcellentthermalstabilityandprocessability.Herein,twokindsofcarboranealkene,i,2-bis(3-butenyl)-1,2-dicarba-closo-dedocaboraneandl-(3-butenyl)-2-methyl-l,2-dicarba-closo-dedocaboraneweresynthesizedviacross-couplingreactionofcarboranylGrignardreagentwithallylbromideintheexistenceoftrans-metalcatalyst.Theresearchonthisreactionsuggestedthatcopper(I)salthadhighestcatalyticactivitytothisreactioncomparingtopalladiumandnickelcomplexes.Also,theuseof7c一carbonligandsadditivecontributedtothehighproductyield.Accordingtotheinvestigationoftheproductionratiooftwoproductscatalyzedbydifferenttrans-metalcatalyst,itwasindicatedthatnickelcomplexesbearingphosphineligandshadgoodreactionselectivitytoproducel-(3-butenyl)-2-methyl-l,2-dicarba-closo-dedocaborane.Fromtheresearchresult,thecatalyticmechanismoftrans-metalcatalyststothiscross-couplingreactionwasalsodiscussed.
