Fibrillarsilicate(FS)isakindofhydratedmagnesiumaluminumsilicatemineralcomposedofmanyfibrillarnano-singlecrystalscl].Duetoitsuniquestructureandlowcost,ithasattractedmassiveinterestsinindustryapplicationsasafinefillerforreinforcingpolymersE2‘31.Inthiswork,FSwasfirstlysurfacemodifiedbysilanecouplingagentbyusingtraditionalmethod,andthenFS/rubbernanocompositesweresuccessfullypreparedbydirectlymixingmodifiedFSwithrubbermatrix.ItisfoundthatFScouldbeseparatedintonano-fibrilswithdiameterslessthan100nmbytheshearforcesduringmixing.Comparedwithpristinerubber,FS/rubbercompositespossesshigherhardness,tensilestressat100%strain,tensilestrength,andtearstrength,whichdemonstratedthatmodifiedFSshowedexcellentreinforcingeffectsonrubber.TofurtherimprovetheinterfacialinteractionbetweenFSandrubber,thesurfacemodificationofFSwasalsoconductedbyusinganewmodificationmethodnamedsupercriticalC02(SC-C02)technique.Theresultsshowedthatchemicaladsorptionofthemodifier(KH570)onFSsurfacedominatesandamoreuniformadsorptionofthemodifieronFSsurfaceissuccessfullyobtainedbyusingsc-C02method.Asaresult,amoreuniformdispersionofFSinrubbermatrixandastrongerinterfacialinteractionbetweenFSandrubberaresuccessfullyachievedbysurfacemodificationofFSinSC-C02,whichleadtotheobviouslyenhancedmechanicalpropertiesofthecomposites.
