Electricallytunablefullcolorphotoniccrystals(PCs)madeofathinfilmofblockcopolymer,polystyrene-b-poly(2-vinylpyridine)(PS-b-P2VP),havebeendeveloped.ThephaseseparationofPSandP2VPblocksleadstoonedimensionalperiodiclamellarstructureparalleltothesurfaceofthethinfilm.Inasolventmixtureofwaterandethanol,eachP2VPlayerisswollenandpartiallycharged.Applyingalowvoltage(constrictionofeachP2VPlayer,dependingonthedirectionandstrengthoftheelectricalpotential.Suchavariationofthelamellarperiodicityleadstoafull-colordisplayoverawiderangefromultraviolettonearinfrared.TheadvantagesofsuchPCsaretheirfacilepreparation,lowdrivingvoltageandgooddurability,whichmakethempotentiallyusefulininformationtechnologies.
