Theadsorptionofpoly(ethyleneoxide)-b-poly(butyleneoxide)diblockcopolymersatthesolid-liquidinterfacewasstudiedusingaquartzcrystalmicrobalancewithdissipationmonitoring(QCM-D).Theeffectofmodifyingtheend-groupofthehydrophilicblockwasinvestigatedbycomparingthebehavioroftrimethylammonium-anddimethylamino-tippedcopolymers,designatedTEmBnandDEmBn,respectively.Foradsorptionfromaqueoussolutionontoagoldsurface,resultsforDE49B22weresimilartothoseoftheT-analogue,butforDE80B34adsorbedamountsweresubstantiallyhigher,andforDE27B25enormouslyhigher,thanfortheT-analogue.Itissuggestedthatveryhighlevelsofadsorptionareassociatedwithformationofamultilayerstructure,stabilizedbyintermolecularhydrogenbondinginvolvingprotonateddimethylaminogroups.
